Mats-unique or euu!nique

What is a Mat you say? The Mat is the Malay equivalent of the Ah Beng. Usually long-haired and scruffy, he is often in a leather or denim jacket, and sitting astride his motorcycle. A "Mat Rocker" is a Mat who unabashedly shows his devotion to heavy metal rock music. The 5Ms of the Mat Rocker are: Minah, Marlboro, Motorcycle, Metal and Maintain Balan'. A Mat-ism, it is an exhortation to stay cool and steady. Minah is the feminine equivalent of the Mat, and hence the equivalent of the Ah lian. Mats originate from unoriginal people with no life. -No offence-Why do I say that? If you look closely, every single one of them wears the same type of clothing like tapered jeans/ skinny jeans and trucker caps and they always listen to weepy Malay songs with sickeningly suicidal lyrics.

Mats have their own language like 'relac ah', which means relax or don't take it to hard, and 'sabo' which means sabotage. Matrep [mat-rape] noun. An extreme version of the mat. In addition to the usual mat accessories, a matrep will also come adorned with tattoos and matching body-piercing in weird corners of his body. Sial [see- yal] noun / adjective. A full stop in every mat's sentence. E.g.: “Tadi aku nampak accident sial Rabak sial Aku tak bedek sial Kesian sial” Translation: Just now I saw an accident (full stop) It was bad (full stop) I'm not kidding (full stop) Poor guy (full stop) In its purest form, “sial” means “jinx” but mats have refined the art of using the word to include it at the end of their every sentence. Also comes in the more polite form “siak” and “siul” for those who do not want to sound too crude. Another sentence is 'gua cayar samar lu ah!!!!' which means I believe in you.

To me, I think mats are acceptable in this urbanizing world but I prefer not to be a mat because all they do is laze around at void decks and play music –no offence but to me, mats have no life unless they enter the music industry as a band with the songs that they have made and then get millions of dollars. Other then that, I think its better to use the time they waste hanging out with their mat friends and do useless stuff to revise and learn for their upcoming tests or do their project work and homework together. That’s why you have to choose the right friends.

Odd Hobbies

Odd hobbies! What an Odd topic! Odd, am I? Odd - differing in nature from what is ordinary, usual, or expected: an odd choice. Hobbies - an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation: Her hobbies include stamp-collecting and woodcarving.

People in the world have many likings and interests and that is called having a hobby but some of them have likings which are out of the ordinary or odd.I have compiled a list of odd jobs.

1)collecting sirens
2)walking around town with pajamas
3)collecting mushrooms
4)
Tracking down the remains of old logging settlements and farms in the Allegany State Park.
5)Line Dancing
6) Contra-dancing
7)rebuilding electronics
8)AirSoft! (It's like Paintball except instead of plastic guns the rifles and weapoins are realistic, and shoot hard rubber pellets instead of paint balls.)
9)Collecting Weapons
10)Cross-Dressing
11) Chainmail

I have no doubt that these hobbies are not done normally but i still think that it is okay to have odd hobbies.

Slum'DOG' Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British drama film directed by Danny Boyle, co-directed by Loveleen Tandan, and written by Simon Beaufoy. It is an adaptation of the Boeke Prize winning and Commonwealth Writers' Prize nominated novel Q and A by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup. Tandan, who began as the film's casting director (India), was later appointed the co-director by Boyle because of her significant contributions to the film's production.

Set and filmed in India, Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of a young uneducated man from the Dharavi slums of Mumbai who appears on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (Kaun Banega Crorepati; though there is no explicit reference to KBC in the movie) and exceeds people's expectations, arousing the suspicions of the game show host and of law enforcement officials. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slumdog_Millionaire#Reactions_from_India_and_Indian_diaspora)

Following its release in India, the film faced criticism from various members of the public alleging that the film fuels western stereotypes about poverty in India and that it peddles "poverty porn" and "slum voyeurism".[46] Tapeshwar Vishwakarma, a representative of a slum-dwellers' welfare group, has filed a defamation lawsuit against the film's music composer A.R. Rahman and actor Anil Kapoor, alleging that slum-dwellers were depicted in a bad light which would be a violation of their human rights. Vishwakarma's lawsuit alleged that the name of the movie is derogatory and he was particularly displeased that Indians associated with the film did not object to the use of word "slumdog."Nicholas Almeida, a social activist working in Mumbai, organized a protest against the film on the grounds that it intentionally exploited the poor for the purposes of profit, and that the title 'Slumdog millionaire" was offensive, demeaning and insulted their dignity. The protesters were slum dwellers in Mumbai who objected to being dehumanized as "dogs" in the film title.

Protests against Slumdog Millionaire have extended beyond Mumbai to other parts of the country. Slum dwellers in Patna, the capital of the Indian state of Bihar, have intensified protests against the movie. Activists have reported that slum dwellers will continue to protest till the film's director deletes the word 'dog' from the title. Protests in Patna intensified on 26 January 2009, when "protesters tore down posters and ransacked a movie theatre" screening the film. The following day, the police in Bihar tightened security "outside theatres in the state to thwart any further attacks."

Was it really right to use the word 'slumdog'? NO I DONT THINK SO!

Indonesian Look-Alike $trikes it rich!

Indonesian Ilham Anas strikes it rich as a lookalike of US President-elect Barrack Obama with his toothy smile, oversized ears and cropped black hair. The photographer is already a celebrity in Obama's former hometown of Jakarta but his fame looks set to reach new heights abroad after the first african-american US president is inaugurated later on Tuesday.

"I will take all the opportunities that come my way, as long as they don't violate ethical codes and my personal values," Anas told AFP.

A Filipino drug company has cast Anas in a commercial showing him dressed as Obama visiting the Philippines, and he has also received marketing offers from Indonesian and South Korean companies.

The lanky 34-year-old from West Java will make an appearance on Indonesia's premier talk show Bukan Empat Mata (Not Four Eyes) to coincide with Obama's inauguration in Washington.

"I see my resemblance to Obama as a blessing. I used to look at the mirror and I had a negative perception of myself."

But he said he would not like to become an official body-double for Obama.

"I don't want to get shot," he explained.

Ilham Anas bares a striking resemblance to the president-elect Barack Obama in this recent commercial. Watch it at - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s--_zRBBmSw

Barrack Obama - The right choice for President?

Lately, Many people have asked me on this matter repeatedly, Is Barrack Obama the right choice for president? I have no doubt that he is the better candidate and that he will bring much good to America and The World. But the question is WHY? 3 reasons why i think that he is the right choice is 1)America needs a sensible leadership, compassionate leadership, honest leadership and strong leadership. 2)Barrack Obama has welcomed a cease-fire on the Gaza Strip. 3) Barrack Obama will no doubt help on the economy crisis.

America needs a sensible, compassionate, honest and strong leadership to help America.Barack Obama has shown that he has all of those qualities. But "as tough as the times are, the selection of a new president is easy," it said suggesting "Obama has met challenge after challenge, growing as a leader and putting real flesh on his early promises of hope and change.
"He has shown a cool head and sound judgment." New York Times said it believed Obama "has the will and the ability to forge the broad political consensus that is essential to finding solutions to this nation's problems."

Barrack Obama has welcomed a cease fire on the Gaza Strip. “We welcome this news,” said Brooke Anderson, the spokesman for the transition team. “President-elect Obama is committed to working to help achieve lasting peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians." This shows that he can put plans into action instantly.

Barrack Obama will help the Economy Crisis.

The Future (http://personal-finance.thefuntimesguide.com/2008/09/obama_economy.php)

Senator Barack Obama plans to jumpstart the economy by enacting an Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families. This long term plan is to provide middle class families with $1000 a year or more for energy relief.

He plans to prevent 1 million Americans from losing their jobs by preventing cutbacks in key areas like road, bridge maintenance, education, health, and more.

He plans to eliminate taxes for seniors making less than $50,000 a year, and simplify tax filings for middle class Americans saving time and tax filing fees for both groups.

He plans to fight for fair trade. This means pressuring the WTO to stop subsidizing countries that do not follow agreements, amend the free trade agreement so that American Workers also benefit, and provide assistance for American workers who have been displaced or who are in danger of being displaced. This also includes eliminating tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas and rewarding companies that support American Workers.

He plans to create 5 million green jobs by investing in the manufacture of clean energy and technology.

He plans to create new jobs by building bridges, roads, ports, air and train systems, and improve the overall infrastructure of the United States.

He plans to create new jobs through investing in innovation such as sciences, and next generation broad band.

He plans to support small businesses through tax relief and start up companies. As well as create more business incubators.

He plans to support the creation of labor unions and will fight for the Employee Free Choice Act.

He plans to protect home ownership and eliminate mortgage fraud while closing the bankruptcy loophole for mortgage companies.

He plans to address predatory credit card practices by creating a credit card rating system and establishing a Credit Card Bill of Rights to Protect Consumers.

He plans to reform bankruptcy laws in order to protect working people. This will ban executive bonuses for bankrupt companies, protect families in medical crisis, and also cap payday loans and improve disclosure.

He will finance measures that support a work/family balance. This includes expanding the Family Medical Leave Act, encouraging states to adopt paid leave, expanding after school opportunities, expanding child and dependent care tax, protect caregiver discrimination in the workplace, and expand flexible work arrangements.

These 3 reasons is more than enough to show that he IS the right choice for president.
